Tender Loving Cats, Inc.: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to a $1,000 enrichment grant that Tender Loving Cats, Inc., was awarded by the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to purchase many different cat enrichment toy favorites, including the One Fast Cat exercise wheel, Go Cat Wand Teasers, Tunnels, an easily disinfected wooden scratching post by Designer Pet Products, a Catit Vesper cat tower with replacement pads, and Stretch & Scratch disposable scratchers for all our kitties in suites at the adoption centers.

These items have helped to stimulate our cats' minds and teach them where it’s appropriate to scratch in a home, making them more adoptable and more prepared to enter their forever homes. In a shelter-like environment, it’s important to have items that can be easily washed and disinfected in communal play areas. This grant has enabled our grass-roots shelter to provide such items to our cats and kittens that we otherwise would not have been able to.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Marky Mark was with us waiting for a forever home since he was 12 weeks old. He was finally adopted after eight months. Four long months he spent waiting for the perfect forever home at PetSmart Adoption Center, but he loved to run on the One Fast Cat exercise wheel all day! Without it he would not have had an outlet for his energy and he could’ve potentially learned bad habits because of that. He is now happily living his best life in a home where his adopters report that he is the sweetest, most loving boy!
