Long Beach Humane Society: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The funds granted to us assisted our rescues with food, litter and medications.

The COVID-19 grant funds were used for the daily operations and needs of our rescues. Due to the shutdown, we had to cancel all of our fundraisers and had few to no adoptions during the months of March and April.

The funds thankfully helped with a portion of the daily needs of our rescues.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Puddles came to us as an adorable little kitten and got adopted. Shortly after his adoption, we learned that Puddles had fallen out of a second-story screened window.

Out of our minds with worry, we rushed to look for him. We hung flyers and put traps out, talking to anyone who would listen. Every morning, noon, and night, we searched for him. Puddles was eventually discovered at a town shelter. He had a fractured hip and was just about to go into surgery. We brought him back to Kitty Cove to recover and be loved-up by all our concerned volunteers.

Puddles recovered and has been with us for about one year. A woman who fell in love with him when we first got him, but who could not adopt at the time, happened to ask about Puddles and her heart still connected with him. He is now in his forever home, living his best life ever!

The funds allowed us to care for Puddles during very challenging times when finances were difficult. Every dollar counts and we appreciate everyone and every organization that assisted us during these very difficult times.
