The Animal Foundation: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

At The Animal Foundation, which takes in an average of 25,000 animals each year, dogs in the shelter are given Kong toys for in-kennel enrichment. Kongs are essential enrichment for dogs and provide the opportunity to engage in natural species behaviors while enjoying a delicious treat.

Kong toys are given out several times a week to dogs in the shelter and awaiting adoption to provide relief from boredom and stress. Kongs are also used as rewards and treats during dog trainings.

In the month of August 2022, TAF took in more than 700 dogs. All those who were behaviorally/medically permitted the use of Kongs received the essential in-kennel enrichment (at least 500 dogs in August alone).

Thanks to this grant, thousands of dogs will receive in-kennel enrichment through Kongs and enjoy a delicious treat!

Ten-year-old Peter is just one example of the dogs who benefitted from the Petfinder Foundation’s generosity.

Peter enjoyed his Kong at the shelter, filled with delicious treats and peanut butter!

Peter recently went on a foster field trip, and here’s what his foster had to say about him:

“Precious Peter! He’s the absolute sweetest, loving boy. He enjoyed lunch at Lazy Dog, and he absolutely loved bath time. His favorite part of the trip was a break at the park to walk around and smell new things. He is very sweet and quiet. Throughout the entire day he did not bark once. He is very patient with kids. He is an all-around amazing dog and would love to live the rest of his life with a family, which he so desperately deserves.”
