Build A Rescue Kennel, Inc./Safe Haven Rescue Kennel: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Safe Haven received P.L.A.Y.’s November Warm Bellies Initiative grant of 10 Chill Pad Pets Mats (valued at $528). These pads were distributed among our dog cottages and inside kennels.

These pads are awesome! These pads are portable, easy to wash, and super comfy for our long-term dogs.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lydia is a coated Mexican hairless dog. She born and raised to be a puppy-mill mommy, and rescued a little over a year ago. Lydia has come a long way from a 100% crate-hider to now going off-leash on desert walks. A few weeks ago, she went into a foster home — the first home environment she has ever known. Her foster describes her as follows: “She is a great pup — sweet, gentle, smart, affectionate, VERY cute and funny. The P.L.A.Y pad when arrived was laid out on the ottoman and for the first time she has expressed open relaxation! She enjoys her pad at her foster home too! THANK YOU, Petfinder Foundation and P.L.A.Y.!”

A few weeks ago, Lydia took the step of going into a foster home, a very large step for her but necessary in her journey of extending herself. This is her very first experience in a “real” home. Lydia took her P.L.A.Y. pad with her (see photos).
