Santa Fe Animal Shelter: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption grant helped Santa Fe Animal Shelter (SFAS) adopt out 150 animals in the months of June and July 2023. All adoption fees were waived during these months and we were also able to match the Kia grant with another $2,000 through our operations budget to make this happen.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Charming was a very hyper dog who acted like a puppy in an older dog’s body. He was very eager to participate in each activity our adoption and behavior team presented to him. His Fear, Anxiety, and Stress (FAS) score went up after spending a few weeks with us and we knew that it was urgent that he find a home.

Charming had escaped from his guardian’s yard and was scooped up by an unhoused couple who took care of him for many months. When they could no longer support him, SFAS stepped in and gave him the care he needed before putting him on the adoption floor.

He stayed with us for 130 days before two women came to the shelter and fell in love with their Prince Charming. He is now in a loving home and the Petfinder Foundation and Kia were a big part of his adoption because it was fee-waived.
