Point Paws Animal Shelter: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

It was used towards an ultrasound of one of our rescue cats' heart and abdomen.

It helped tremendously towards the cost of the ultrasound of those cavities. That helped us see how bad this kitty, Gracie, a beautiful Maine coon's, heart murmur is and showed us that the reason for her not being well was a diagnosis of pancreatitis.

She is now on a special diet and doing well so far under my care as a special-needs foster who, we found out, is also blind. Such a sweet girl that someone dumped. She would have had no means of survival and appreciates all the new love and care she has with us.

How many pets did this grant help?

With the cost today it only helped one pet with the $250, but we were definitely lacking funds due to the pandemic so this helped us pay for a much-needed ultrasound.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gracie is a beautiful female Maine coon who came to us during the pandemic after a resident in town found her in her yard. Nobody knew where she came from, and nobody claimed her when we advertised her and contacted all the appropriate authorities. We noticed that she could not see well and was banging into things, so we had to keep her secure in a cage where she was comfortable, with plenty of food and water and a nice comfy bed and litter box, until we had her completely checked out by our veterinarian.

The veterinarian heard a grade-3 heart murmur, saw that Gracie was blind, and noticed a bloated stomach even through Gracie was not eating or drinking much. Being that this was during the beginning stages of the pandemic, we had to cancel two of our fundraisers, so we really were not in any position to take in an animal who required so many medical tests and so much care.

Thank you so much for your generous grant; if it were not for the Petfinder Foundation and a few other kind, generous donors, we would not have been able to diagnose Gracie’s problem. She’s now doing well, eating a special diet for pancreatitis and being very well cared-for. Thank you so much again! Bless your kind hearts!
