Somerset Regional Animal Shelter: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The money was used to provide medical care and prepare animals for adoption. This includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, heartworm testing for dogs, and FELV/FIV testing for cats.

This gift helped us fast-track animals to the adoption floor. We were able to get them the care and vaccines they needed so that they would be ready to be adopted into their forever homes.

How many pets did this grant help?

At least 25, maybe more

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Miu Miu was a senior cat who was a little on the feisty side. She was originally adopted out at around 8 years old to a barn home. Unfortunately, she was somehow injured in the barn, and the owner was unable to provide care, so she was trapped and returned to the shelter.

Upon arrival, it was noted that she was limping. Part of the grant money was used to have a leg x-ray so we could provide appropriate care. It was learned that she had a soft-tissue injury. After cage rest, she was sent to further recover in a foster home, and was eventually adopted by the foster parent. The Petfinder Foundation’s gift allowed her to be cared for and then placed into a forever, loving home.
