Animal Welfare Association: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Thanks to this wonderful grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to purchase 14 dog beds for our kennels. These beds are key to helping improve dogs' experience while they are here.
We have 57 kennels and previously only had 39 beds. The funds from this grant allowed us to purchase the additional 14 beds we needed so every kennel and every dog has a bed.
Helping to improve their experience while at the shelter helps reduce their stress and prevent issues that might lead to delayed adoptions. The longer the adoption is delayed, the greater the risk of the dog developing issues, making finding a fur-ever home even more challenging.
Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, we are able to make their time with us better and improve their chances for adoption.
How many pets did this grant help?
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
So many dogs in our shelter benefited from the kennel beds we were able to purchase thanks to the Petfinder Foundation, but nobody more so than Laura, our three-legged wonder dog.
Laura came to us from a shelter in Mississippi that was overcrowded and did not have the resources to help her damaged right leg.
Upon Laura’s arrival, our vet determined the leg did indeed need to be removed and was able to perform the amputation. Laura was able to utilize one of the new kennel beds to aid her during her recovery. Thanks to the new bed, she was able to stay comfortable, dry and sanitary. She recovered very quickly and was able to find her fur-ever home shortly thereafter.
