Our first rescue of the new year was these four adorable puppy-mill rescues: Geppetto (first picture) and Goldie (second picture) the cocker spaniels and Gia and Gingersnap the puggles. They lived their entire lives in cages in an Amish puppy mill in Pennsylvania, being bred over and over again until they were no longer useful. The spaniels both had rotting teeth and huge, wet, heavy mats weighing down their ears. Gia the puggle was especially terrified and had obviously never known any kind touch. Gingersnap tested positive for heartworm and needed treatment. Thanks to our Petfinder Foundation grants, we were able to take in these dogs and get them everything they need to prepare them for their new lives. All were spayed/neutered, updated on shots, treated for ear infections, bathed and groomed, had their teeth cleaned and rotted teeth extracted, and more — then it was on to our experienced fosters to socialize them. All were adopted into wonderful forever homes within a few months!
