Town and Country Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our adoption rate has greatly diminished this year due to a shortage of personnel and volunteers, so we are still using the grant money. We have discounted the adoption fees for 19 cats and kittens so far. We have held several Caturday Adoption Days to move our kittens and have given several adopters two-for-one or a discounted fee.

We have not used the funds for dogs yet, but we have a Waggin' Weekend coming up on Sept. 17 and we plan to surprise some adopters by waiving the fee entirely based on their situation. We plan to assist any veterans or active-duty military with discounted fees when they apply.

How many pets did this grant help?

To be determined. Nineteen to date. We currently have over $4,000 left to use. We hope to help 20-30 more.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We had two kittens, Sugar Pie (first photo, front) and Bean (second photo), whose foster parents couldn’t decide which kitten they wanted to keep. Although it’s hard to tell them apart, Mom wanted one and her 11-year-old daughter wanted the other.

It’s an excellent home and they are excellent fosters, so we could let them keep both for the price of one! They were surprised and happy, and so were Bean and Sugar Pie.
