Lending Paws a Hand: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We are a foster-based rescue and often times when a new animal comes into the rescue they need time to adjust after being in a loud shelter. This adjustment includes rewards (such as treats in Kongs) to let them know they are okay.

We also have many adoption events, and Kongs are a great way to keep dogs occupied during a long event day.

This grant helped us tremendously by providing mental stimulation for our dogs and allowing them to have an amazing reward while they adjust to their new foster homes. Our fosters were also very appreciative of having the Kongs to give to their new foster dogs.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This is Saoirse (pronounced Sur-sha). She is a spunky 6-month-old Plott hound mix available for adoption. She is a very active girl and, with her hound nose, it is important to keep her occupied
(especially when her foster mom is at work all day).

This grant helped Saoirse because she was able to sniff around and maneuver getting the treats out of the Kong. The Kong also helped her calm down during an adoption event so she wasn’t super excited.

She still tends to jump up on people when saying hello, so the Kong was used for mental stimulation in advance to help her get a little more tired, and she effectively met people at the adoption event with minimal jumping! We can’t thank Kong enough for their support and helping Saoirse!
