St Francis of Assisi's Bully Breed Rescue: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The shirts that were donated were used for the dogs in our program. We have several dogs with storm phobias.

The shirts were used for our current foster dogs; one was sent home with an adopted dog. The shirts work for our dogs, thank you.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Maxx is a 6-year-old rottweiler who has had storm phobia since we moved to our new location. Maxx has had a problem for over six months now and we have been working with our vet trying various products. We have tried Rescue Remedy, D.A.P, prescription sedatives such as ACE and Valium (both oral and IV) with no results at all. Finally our vet placed him on Zylekene, which is another medicine. Zylekene has helped him drastically, but not 100%. When we received our Thundershirts, our vet suggested that we try it in combination with the Zylekene. The combination has worked amazingly; we have had no issues with him since we have done the combination therapy. This year has been very bad for us with storms and living in the mountains of western North Carolina, the storms are very bad because they bounce off the mountain ranges.

Thank you so much for giving Maxx some peace of mind and comfort. Maxx went from pure panic attacks to being a normal dog when it storms. Prior to combination therapy, he had injured himself getting out of his crate, requiring stitches in his face; broke out of a pane window, requiring emergency surgery; broke several teeth chewing out of his crate during storms and much more. He now just lays in his crate playing with his Kong.
