How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used this grant to cover the adoption fees of exotic animals in our care. We decided not to advertise that we were doing free adoptions; instead, when a person was approved for adoption and came to pick up, we then told them that their fee had been covered by this grant. It was a fun surprise that made the adoption that much more exciting.

Elvis was a ball python who came to us several years ago. He was adopted by a young family who cared for him for about four years.

Life started to change as the kids got older and, unfortunately, Elvis was brought back to the rescue.

He wasn’t here very long before a woman inquired about adopting him. She was new to snakes but had one ball python already. She is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and found that her new snake was very calming and gave her joy.

She decided to adopt Elvis as well. And while she bought all the necessary items and would definitely spend the money if he needed to go to the vet, she didn’t have unlimited funds at this time in her life. So it was a blessing to her to be able to have that adoption fee covered by this grant. It meant she could save that money or put it to use somewhere else for the snakes, herself, or her kids.
