The Humane Society of Davie County: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

During COVID-19, we utilized the $500 for vetting and medical care for our animals who were in foster care. Once an animal left the shelter, we were responsible for all flea and tick medication, heartworm prevention, dewormer, etc. Unexpected illnesses arose, unfortunately.

We were able to provide medical care for the animals who were in foster homes. We experienced upper-respiratory infections in cats, ringworm, and heartworm disease.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Meet Hunter. His owner fell on hard times and lost his home. We initially worried that Hunter’s right eye had lost all sight, but fortunately we now believe we can save his vision. Hunter’s owner hadn’t been able to afford vet care for quite some time, so we had to provide medical care to get him up-to-date on all vaccines, treat him for parasites and fleas, and help get screening and drops to take the pressure off his eye. Thank you for making that possible. His foster fell in love with him and plans to adopt him!
