Mission Valley Animal Shelter: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We like to give all of the pets that come into the shelter their own bed so that they can feel as cared-for as possible. Some of our pet beds were getting very worn and were in poor condition. Having the new beds was wonderful, as we were able to replace the worn old beds with the new ones.

Being a small private shelter without any government funding, it was a big help to have the donated beds and not have to purchase them. Because the beds were on the smaller side, we used the majority of them for the cats and the smaller dogs, and they were thrilled with their new beds!

How many pets did this grant help?

It will help all of the cats and dogs that we take in this year, so about 350.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We took in a pregnant female cat around the New Year. In order to make her feel comfortable, we made a cozy space for her in a kennel in the manager’s office and put one of the pet beds in the kennel for her.

She took to the space and the bed and happily had her kittens there and raised them in that bed until they were old enough to start wandering around. That cat and her kittens have all been adopted.
