Pearl River County SPCA: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Our grant money was used to promote adoption specials and to subsidize some of the adoptions done under the specials.

The promotion of adoption specials brought more people into our shelter and resulted in several of our long term residents finding forever homes. The promotions also increased community awareness of our facility.

How many pets did this grant help?

Approximately 30 dogs and cats found homes under our special pricing promotions.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lisa had adopted a dog from us in the past and had him trained as a service dog to help her thru daily life when her husband was offshore. Recently she had to have him put to sleep because he was suffering from cancer. The only time he would get up to go outside was when she brought out his service harness. About this same time we received a super sweet GSD, Roxy, who was very particular about whom she would cozy up to. The first time she and Lisa met, Roxy went straight to her and laid down at her feet. Naturally we had to find a way to make Roxy Lisa’s new partner. The Orvis adoption grant played an important role in helping us make this possible.
