St. Animal Pet Adoptions: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

For our dogs.

We are a small shelter and cannot afford to buy Kongs. These Kongs were given to our shelter dogs and foster dogs. These Kongs were filled with peanut butter and small pieces of dog food. This gives them something to do while in their kennels at the shelter for long periods of time. We also gave out Kongs to our foster dogs. The dog I foster, Penny, is a high-energy dog and this really helps her to calm down.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

I am fostering Penny, a Coonhound mix, and she is a very high-energy dog. She is always looking for something to do, and giving her a Kong with peanut butter mixed with dry dog food is her favorite thing. When she sees me making one, she will go straight to her kennel and wait for me to give it to her. Giving her one at night when it’s time to settle down and “go to bed” has worked really well for her. When the box of Kongs were received, Penny decided to help herself. I told her she had to share the Kongs with the other shelter dogs. Meet Penny: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/33438659
