Gateway Pet Guardians: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Gateway Pet Guardians was thrilled to receive 10 Chill Pad Pet Mats in the P.L.A.Y. September Warm Bellies Voters' Choice Poll. We used half of our mats at the emergency shelter, giving our residents the opportunity for maximum comfort during their (hopefully short) stay there. We sent the remaining Chill Pads to our incredible foster homes, where they were repeatedly stolen by existing dogs in the homes. They are definitely a favorite of the dogs!

Anything that can bring comfort to an animal who may have known very little or none in his or her previous life is a win for us. Things like quality bedding cost money that most rescue organizations just don't have. It is wonderful when opportunities like this come along. We are proud to have so many supporters who helped us win this for our guests!

How many pets did this grant help?

Well, we received 10 but we know that the ones that stayed at the shelter will continue to benefit dogs staying there. We also know that existing pets in our foster homes have had lots of long naps on the Chill Pads.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Cozumel is one of our adoptables in a foster home who had to share her Chill Pad 🙂 From her Petfinder profile: “I was rescued as a shy dog who was living on the street with my three siblings. They all live in their forever homes now. My initial shyness quickly melts away once I get to know you. I’m approximately 3 years old and weigh 65 lbs. I love to play and go on walks. I’m a social girl who could hang on patios for happy hours with my people or go to dog-friendly events. I’m also up for snuggling on the couch and giving lots of kisses.

“I get along great with other dogs. In my foster home, I live with several foster siblings big and small. Since I grew up on the street, though, with few resources, I don’t share well. For this reason, I eat in my crate and only have supervised play time with toys. Because of my size and playfulness, I would do best with older children. I’m potty-trained, crate-trained, and ready to start my forever life. Are you my people?” Meet her: www.petfinder.com/petdetail/39576887
