Five Acres Animal Shelter: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the funds to offset our annual Trails for Tails run, which had to be canceled due to COVID-19. This event usually raises close to $30,000 each year and its cancellation has been a huge hit to our finances in 2020. These funds go to the direct care of our shelter animals and our special-medical-needs fund, Shadow's Fund.

It has covered the cost of vaccines and microchips along with cleaning supplies for our canine and feline buildings.

How many pets did this grant help?

Approximately 300

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lola was found wandering alone in southern Missouri and was sheltered at a local vet clinic, hoping her family was looking for her. After no one claimed her, she came to live at Five Acres. It was apparent that Lola had had a troubled past, as she was nervous and alarmed by strangers and had serious difficultly trusting new people and situations.

Although Lola faced many challenges, it was clear to our team what she needed: She needed time to heal and learn, love from a few trusted humans, and the right family to come along who would adore her and care for her no matter what.

After many days at the shelter, spending lots of time making friends with other dogs in the play yard and taking time to bond with a few dedicated volunteers, Lola made tremendous progress and found that special family to take her to her forever home.
