The Cat Network: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The cat Kong toys were used for the cats and kittens that are in our care and waiting for their fur-ever homes. While we are mostly foster homes, we do have a room in a building that belongs to another group that we use for cats for whom we just don't have foster homes. Some of our cats and kittens get adopted right away, but some stay with us for a while -- and we want to give them as much opportunity for play and stimulation as we can! The toys are a HUGE help!

The toys help to provide opportunities for play and "hunting" and positive stimuli when the cats are not being entertained by their foster parents -- and it's even more important for the cats who are at the purple building, who DO get interaction each day, but it's not the same as living in a home. The different types of toys allow each cat/kitten to choose the ones that they find the most interesting.

Duncan (first photo) and Alastair (second photo) came to us in October 2020. They were close to a year old and very, very timid. It took us at least six weeks before they were comfortable with all of us at the purple building. Since that time, they have blossomed into sweet and outgoing boys.

But around September 2021, we started to notice that they weren’t as playful and happy as they once were; living in the purple building/shelter was starting to wear on them. They have always loved toys — especially Duncan! He likes to chase things — but when the volunteers weren’t there, we had to put up the mechanical toys.

Once we got the Kong toys, where there was a good variety of toys and they could play with different ones, they seemed to even back out. We are tickled to say that they have been adopted and will be going to their fur-ever home on Dec. 31!
