Coalition for Animal Rescue and Education: A Shot at Life Vaccination Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The arrival of vaccines could not have been planned as well as the date of arrival. Our closest town, Potosi, Missouri, Washington County is extremely poor and this summer THEY CLOSED DOWN THEIR DOG POUND which was a kill shelter. If CARE did not help and get the animals fed and adopted out of the kill shelter, they were there for 5 days and then they were gone. When they closed down the shelter due to NO MONEY, many rescues came to the rescue and took the dogs. NO ONE TOOK THE CATS. CARE pulled the 28 remaining cats and the vaccines were used for them. The vaccine was a blessing because we had not counted on the ADDITIONAL EXPENSE of 28 new lives at our rescue. All 23 kittens were adopted, of course, and we still have a couple of momma cats with us, but we are working on getting them into homes. THE VACCINE was a BLESSING. Our budget cannot handle drastic situations like have the local city pound close down with the threat of what is not pulled will die. Petfinder helped us save 28 cats, 23 kittens and 5 mommas. We thank you.

Without the vaccines we could not have saved 28 cats that were destined to die when the Potosi City Pound was closed. This vaccine saved their lives, did not blow up our budget and allowed us to get them medically treated, S/N, micro chipped and into forever homes.

How many pets did this grant help?

28 cats...... 23 kittens and 5 mature cats.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We have included a photo of Mr. Alan Ruby who adopted one of the kittens. He has had cats all of his life and loves them. Alan adopted one of our kittens to fit into his household of two mature cats. Everyone is doing fine and the adoption has been a success. We are very pleased. This little kitten would not have lived if Petfinder had not provided some of the vaccines to help us through a harrowing time of too many cats and kittens at one time. Our budget gets us through the month and we are never prepared to take in 20 plus new animals at a time. We thank Petfinder for their help and for their grant.
