BENCHS: Stretch and Scratch Cat Scratchers Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Stretch and scratch boards

We were able to buy these boards at a reduced rate making them affordable.
They were in the cat and kittens cages used during their intake stay of 14 days, then moved to their condo when they were "moved up".
The cats loved scratching them and sometimes chewing them up.
We would infuse them with catnip to make these very interesting.

Cats that are playing and happy are more attractive to adopters so we felt they helped put a happy face on the cats

How many pets did this grant help?

Well, we adopted more than 300 cat/kittens last year so it helped all of them! :)

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We had a litter of very rascally kittens. They had tested positive for ringworm so it means a more confining living space and minimal contact. We cannot sit with them and play because we would all develop ringworm and spread it around.
These kittens got a stretch and scratch replaced at least twice each week. They would scratch at it and rip it with their toes and bite it. All that pent up energy could be used in that way to help keep them from completely melting down! Poor dears
