Capital Area Humane Society: Purina and Amazon Treats for the Holidays Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Friskies Party Mix cat treats and Purina Beggin' Strips dog treats were used to provide enrichment to the adoptable pets in our care. We also used some of the treats to create take-home gift bags for pets who were adopted.
Volunteers used the treats to help socialize some of the more fearful pets in our care. Having these treats on-hand helped the fearful pets to slowly learn to trust our staff and volunteers. We also used the treats as a reward for good dog behavior in their runs. We hang treat buckets on the outside of the runs, and ask our staff/volunteers to give the dogs treats whenever they are not barking, have four paws on the floor, etc.
How many pets did this grant help?
Roughly 1,000
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Bandit was originally adopted from CAHS in 2012, but found himself back in our care in December 2015 with a severe flea allergy. Bandit was also very shy. With the help of your generous grant, we were able to help socialize him and gain his trust. Bandit was adopted into his new forever home in February 2016.
