Saved By A Vet Tech Rescue: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Prior to receiving this grant, Matilda hadn’t had any meet-and-greets. She is a special dog who requires a certain type of home and has a heart condition that could require additional veterinary care and medications in the future.

We’ve been able to use this grant to promote Matilda and she’s since had a couple of meet-and-greets with wonderful families who are considering adopting her. Matilda is a special girl who has been through so much, she deserves an equally special home, and the Petfinder Foundation is helping us get even closer to finding that for her.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Matilda came to us about a year ago from a hoarding case out of Monroe, MI, with an entire litter of puppies. She was skinny, covered in feces, and had toenails that were so long, they were growing into her paw pads.

She also came to us with a heart murmur and pretty severe dental disease. Of course her puppies were adopted quickly, but Matilda is still searching for the perfect furever home. She has had a recent dental cleaning and is spayed, fully vaccinated, heartworm-negative, and on year-round heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.

All of the above care was previously paid for by our rescue, and these grant funds are being reserved to hopefully encourage the right person to adopt Matilda regardless of her age and heart condition. The funds will be used to waive her adoption fee and reimburse her adopter for any of her needs — medical, food, supplies, etc. — until the funds are depleted. It could be a day, a month, or a year before Matilda is adopted, but she will continue to be safe with us until we find the perfect fit for her.

Meet Matilda here.
