Paws and Think Detroit: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant funds were used to pay for Sheila's emergency C-section after she went into labor and had complications. She delivered eight total healthy puppies.

It helped save four puppies that were stuck in Sheila when she went into labor and stalled out. We are 100% donation-based, so the grant helped to cover these expenses.

Sheila was found roaming the streets, and no one claimed her. She was then put on puppy watch, as we suspected that she was pregnant. She went into labor and gave birth to three puppies. Then she stalled out and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. They waited to see if she could continue on her own, but her heart rate started to drop along with the heart rates of the puppies remaining in her. The vet acted quickly and performed a C-section. Everyone was safe and sound after that. Sheila was a terrific dog and was adopted out when the puppies were old enough to be adopted. All eight puppies were adopted and Sheila found a home as well. Here are pictures of Sheila and all her pups, as well as Sheila with her adopters.
