Franklin County Animal Shelter: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With this grant we were able to purchase 200 quality martingale collars for the dogs currently in our care, as well as future dogs.

The collars we purchased allowed our dogs to be walked safely by staff, visitors, adopters, and volunteers without fear of them getting loose or injured with poor-fitting standard collars. They also aid in the leash-training of the dogs in our care.

How many pets did this grant help?

To date, 59 dogs have been helped at our facility by gaining training and having safe, reliable collars to start their journeys with their new families, ensuring they can't easily escape and find themselves lost and homeless.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Khai came to the shelter in April of 2018, scared, confused and reactive. He was very difficult to walk and control because of his reactivity to other animals and strange people. With the help of his new martingale collar, staff and dedicated volunteers have been able to work on his leash manners and take him on walks through town around other dogs and strange new sights and sounds with very little issue, helping to make Khai a more adoptable dog and get him on his way to finding his forever home.
