Beagle Rescue of Southern Maryland: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We applied for help with the emergency C-section costs for the pregnant beagle Brandy.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Brandy, a beagle mix (first photo), found herself at the shelter (second photo). She couldn’t tell the staff that she was pregnant. They thought she was gaining weight and cut back on her food. By the time they figured it out, she was pretty malnourished.

The shelter called us to help. By the time we got her, Brandy required an emergency C-section. Six puppies were born, but one by one, they all passed away.

On top of this severe medical condition, Brandy was heartworm-positive. The costs for the surgery, puppy life-support, and heartworm treatment were more than we could raise.

We are so grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for helping us with Brandy’s bills. She recently was adopted and is living the good life now. She is still skittish, but she’s learning to trust.
