Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland, Inc.: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The funds were used to cover 50% of our $200 adoption fee for five senior dog adopters who are currently unemployed and were happy to have the financial assistance. A generous member of our board of directors matched the $100 support payments from this grant.

All five grant recipients are well-qualified adopters but for the adoption fee, and we are happy to help them with your assistance.

How many pets did this grant help?

Five

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

All five seniors were adopted. One adopter in particular had recently lost a dog to cancer whom she had adopted earlier in 2020. Her children were positively impacted by having a dog in the home to care for, and when Bella became ill, the family committed to doing everything to save her, but to no avail. The children said they wanted to help another dog. We heard about this, contacted the mother, and invited the family to visit with us and choose another senior pup in need of a safe and loving home. This was just one of those situations that demonstrate the enduring relationship between young people and old dogs.

Chloe, an impaired shih tzu (second photo); Ace, a mixed terrier (third photo); Feliz, a soi dog rescue from Thailand (fourth photo); and Rex, a wonderful chow chow (fifth photo), were also helped with this grant.
