Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society: Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Waived adoption fees for feline leukemia-positive cats available for adoption as well as the medical and basic care for FeLV+ cats still in our shelter's care.

This grant has helped us to provide care for our FeLV+ cats and offer reduced adoption fees to encourage adopters to consider one of these very-special-needs animals as a viable adoption choice.

How many pets did this grant help?

As of May 25, 2018, we have helped six FeLV+ cats in our care and adopted out three FeLV+ cats and can take in more FeLV+ cats in need.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Summer came to us in January of 2017, was adopted and then returned due to a flare-up of cystitis — bladder inflammation caused by stress, and likely linked to her diagnosis of feline leukemia. Summer has now been successfully adopted (again) with the help of the Petfinder Foundation’s New Year, New Home grant. She even got to go home with one of her other FeLV+ buddies named Stormy!
