Cenla Cat Project: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Runt, now Bart, will have vision for years to come. This super adorable and active kitten had surgery to repair endothelial degeneration in both eyes and a deep stromal ulceration in his left eye. The Petfinder Foundation and our Facebook community made it possible for Bart to have his vision-saving surgery.

Runt started life in a litter of adorable kittens. His foster soon noticed that his left eye had a glaze or film over it. Our local veterinarian treated the eye with drops, but the condition was becoming apparent in both eyes.

We were referred to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Runt was diagnosed with endothelial degeneration in both eyes and a deep stromal ulceration in his left eye. This is a condition the vet had never seen in a kitten. Runt’s surgery gave him vision that he would have lost.

While Runt was at the ophthalmologist, his foster family’s 3-year-old son (and Runt’s best buddy) kept looking for him. He also decided the kitty’s name was Bart and not Runt.

His foster family couldn’t bear to take Bart away from their son. Bart has been officially adopted by his foster family. He became a keeper kitty.
