Take Paws Rescue: Disaster Response and Recovery Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the money in support of the animals in need after Hurricane Laura impacted our region. We took in 94 dogs total in August of 2020, 26 of them emergency pulls from the animal shelters directly impacted by the hurricane and dogs abandoned by people evacuating.

With the money awarded by the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to provide food and veterinary care to all the animals we took in from the impacted areas, and get them safely into foster homes to await forever families without any negative impact to our current operational tempo.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Mia was a stray in the hurricane-affected area. A neighborhood family had been keeping her within their fenced yard because the neighbors were complaining about her, and one of them had threatened to shoot her if he saw her again. The storm destroyed the family’s fence and Mia was at risk of being shot. Take Paws Rescue was able to take her in, provide medical care and good-quality food, and find her a wonderful new family to love her forever.
