Take Paws Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received a box of KONG toys. Take Paws Rescue saved over 1,000 dogs in 2019, and upon receipt of the toys, each dog we took in got a KONG, along with a blanket of their own to help through the transitions.

Take Paws Rescue pulls dogs from high[-intake] shelters and other high-stress environments. When they come to us, they are usually traumatized and require a lot of TLC. By supplying us with the KONG toys, the Petfinder Foundation has enabled us to give each dog in our care a toy of their own, along with a blanket and plenty of love and patience to help them recover from their trauma and get ready for their forever home.

How many pets did this grant help?

Take Paws Rescue saved over 1,000 dogs in 2019. We received the KONGs in September and they have been give to over 200 dogs.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Nearly three months ago, we welcomed Pansy (first five photos) into rescue. She had wounds all over her body and was covered in demodectic mange and extremely emaciated. She was found with two young babies hidden in a rotten tree trunk. She is currently with one of our trusted fosters, and Take Paws Rescue is supporting her ongoing treatment for an ear infection, as well as a secondary staph infection from and along with her reoccurring demodetic mange.

Pansy is the sweetest girl. She is quiet as a mouse and timidly follows you around. As you gain her trust, she will come for pets and even try to roll over.

She has lived a life most of us don’t want to delve in to. But what we do know is she also deserves a future better than we can imagine, and with the help of our supporters like the Petfinder Foundation and KONG, we will be able to give that to her.

Pansy is not quite ready for adoption yet so she doesn’t have a Petfinder profile, but hopefully she will be ready for her forever home soon!
