Humane Society of Henderson County: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant helped the animals of our shelter by allowing us to purchase the following:
Dog & cat food
Litter
Vaccines
Bleach
Cleaning supplies
Sanitizing supplies
Flea and tick preventative
Heartworm preventative
Leashes and collars
Toys
Veterinary services
Essential lifesaving services

Just in the month of June 2020 alone, this grant helped vaccinate 89 cats, 34 dogs, and one guinea pig. Every animal that enters our facility gets vaccinated on intake, so this grant helped provide the vaccines necessary for these animals. We supply food, water, treats, baths, etc., to the animals in our care. Then once they are ready to leave our facility to go to their forever homes, we spay or neuter them and they are vaccinated for rabies. This grant has helped every animal in our facility in one way or another.

How many pets did this grant help?

In June 2020, this grant helped a total of 124 animals.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One example of how this grant helped the Humane Society of Henderson County is with Turner and Hooch. Turner and Hooch are approximately 1-year-old Chesapeake Bay retrievers. We found them wandering Henderson County, Kentucky. They were never reclaimed by their owners. They were completely covered in so many ticks that you couldn’t see their fur. We took them to the vet to get medical treatment; then we bathed and de-ticked them for a week. At the present time, they have pending adoptions with forever families and are very happy boys! During this pandemic that we are facing, your grant has been a blessing. Thank you for doing this!
