Prairie Paws Animal Shelter: Build-A-Bear Youth Humane Education Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received the Youth Humane Education Program Grant. This grant allowed us to purchase much-needed supplies for our Humane Education Program, including lots of great books regarding humane education as well as crafting and teaching supplies. Since the grant was received in August, at least 100 children have benefited from being able to read our new books to the shelter pets and to each other. Both kids and pets have benefited from the fun craft projects they have made for the pets, such as cat-treat puzzles and super-cute kennel cards.

This grant helped us better educate the children who have visited the shelter through our Humane Education Program. They have a better understanding of pet ownership and what to do if they find an animal in distress. They also understand that shelter pets are not damaged and deserve second chances at amazing lives. They are now able to educate friends, family members and others and be invaluable voices for the voiceless.
