Heart of Jackson Humane Society: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We purchased more enrichment items for the dogs: feeders, food/treats, and toys. We also used it to take dogs on "out and abouts." We purchased tags with our name and phone number on them.

Without the grant, we would not have purchased any of the items we did. We have always relied on the public to help us with these activities and that support is lacking in our area. The dogs had new items to make them think and keep their minds busy.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Turbo (first and second photos) is the dog whom this grant helped the most. He has been at our shelter for seven years. He was so programmed into a routine, he was deemed unadoptable. With the grant funds, we started taking him out of the shelter. We also used enrichment feeders to change up his routine. He is becoming more comfortable and less anxious outside of the shelter. We have reposted him to Petfinder with the hopes that he will find a home soon.
Meet Turbo here.
