T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Twenty-six cats and 17 dogs were able to have their adoption fees waived and find homes.

This helped us lessen the amount of animals in care during the very busy intake season when strays are picked up and neonates come in.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Our biggest hooray was Tif, a senior blue heeler who came in heartworm-positive and fearful of all people.

We spent six months working with her to get her socialized and taught her so many tricks, such as “touch,” so she could become comfortable with people.

This event helped peak the interest of a family that was visiting their son. They stopped in and hit it off with Tif. After six months of working with her, and with the help of sponsored adoption, we found Tif a forever home.
