Vanderburgh Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received 46 Kong toys for our shelter dogs.

While our staff and volunteers strive to give each of the animals in our care lots of attention, shelter dogs still spend a majority of their day inside their kennel. This grant allowed us to acquire Kong enrichment toys to keep these dogs occupied and entertained, thus minimizing kennel anxiety.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Scooby (first three photos) is a 1-1/2-year-old shelter dog with LOTS of energy and general anxiety. She had a tendency to destroy tennis balls and other toys she was given, causing worry that she had possibly swallowed something she should not have. With the Kong enrichment toys, we no longer need to worry! Not only are they indestructible, they also provide an outlet for Scooby’s sensory overload. Since receiving this toy, Scooby presents better in her kennel and is overall a happier shelter pup!
