How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used cat castles in our adoptable cat kennels for those cats that have larger kennels or those that are more frightened in the kennel environment.

For many cats, the shelter environment is very frightening. The cat castles provide a "safe place" for those cats that are frightened in a new environment. Often this safety gives the cat the confidence it needs to thrive in the shelter environment.

Bella was one of our most frightened cats. She went into a foster home to gain confidence, but when she was returned to the shelter she was still quite shy. Her Cat Castle was her refuge from the hustle and bustle of the daily shelter activity. Once she gained confidence, she began sitting on top of her castle and was eventually adopted.
