Wish Upon A Rescue: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Cat Enrichment Grant has helped our rescue by serving the cats who are put in the Downers Grove and Romeoville Illinois Petco locations. These items have helped them thrive and de-stress.

We have numerous cats and kittens who have benefited from this grant. One big hit was the puzzle feeders; these help stimulate the cats' minds and have them work for their food/treats, which helps them de-stress.

Another item the kittens have been loving is our pop up portable cat tents. These help the kittens with exercise and room to play, while also helping with exposure to get adopted.

We have gotten them lickable treats, interactive toys, and other calming items to help their stay be the easiest transition between foster home and adopter.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This is a story of a mom and her babies. Their names are Sashimi (first photo, with her adopter) and the sushi babies: Tamago and Sake (second photo), Edamame, and Wasabi. All five had gone to the Petco in Downers Grove, Illinois, to be adopted to their forever homes.

Sashimi had had enough of the mom life, and since she was only 1 year old, she was ready for her new beginning. Sashimi loved her ever-so-fitting sushi puzzle toy. She used her paws and nose to move the “sushi rolls” back and forth to reward herself with treats. This helped keep her active while she awaited her forever home!

The babies, of course, loved the pop-up cat tent. This tent has been such a pivotal item in our routines while we are taking care of all the cats. These babies loved running and climbing, fetching, and jumping for multiple small toys, wands, and balls, all while getting tent time every day. We noticed such an increase of happiness in these kittens especially when it came to the tent.

All of the babies and Sashimi have been adopted into their forever homes, but they were so well taken care of while they were with us at Petco thanks to the Petfinder Foundation. We are so grateful, and so are our cats!
