Home Sweet Home Pet Rescue, Inc.: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant offered amazing opportunities for the dogs in rescue to use their natural instincts to make extraordinary gains that promote health and well-being. Multiple dogs have been able to benefit from the items purchased through this grant thus far. We've used the funds to purchase items that are reusable to ensure that many dogs in the future will be able to benefit as well.

The enrichment items that were purchased have helped anxious dogs calm their nerves and build trust with new people, lose weight, burn energy through the use of mental exertion, and increase the level of overall joy experienced every day.

Thank you for awarding us the funds to be able to provide these experiences for the dogs in foster care!

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Honey (first four photos) came into rescue shortly after we were awarded this grant. She is extremely friendly with new dog friends but petrified of new people.

Luckily, she’s a big fan of food and any games or toys that involve food. We were able to use the snuffle mats, Kongs, Toppl toys, and lick mats to help reward positive interactions with people. It has helped her immensely in becoming comfortable and forming an attachment to her foster family, which is beginning to extend to other new people as well.

This grant has truly helped a sweet, scared pup become more well-adjusted, and it will ultimately help her transition to her forever home. With the help of this grant, she is becoming the best version of herself!

Herby (photos 5 and 6) is a dog who came back into rescue after five years when his person began her fight against cancer and was no longer able to care for him.

With the lack of exercise, he became very overweight. The snuffle mats, Kongs, and lick mats have helped to slow him down when he eats, ultimately helping him to eat less to move his weight loss journey along.

He will soon be available for adoption as a healthier version of himself.
