DeKalb County Animal Welfare League: All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We purchased agility equipment to help less-adoptable dogs become more confident, to challenge them to think and to help them to be more interactive with potential adopters.

It has given dogs who are a bit shy and less outgoing an opportunity to gain confidence.

How many pets did this grant help?

We have three who were adopted as a direct result of this grant, and many others who are in the process of learning new things, which we are sure will help them.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The foxhound pictured had been at the shelter for almost a year, very much “shut down” from the first. He was just one of those dogs who would look at you and his expression was always disconnected. He never got up to greet people, and when taken out to meet people, he just didn’t seem to care. We started working with him on the agility equipment a little at a time and, slowly but surely, he started being more interested in going out and spending time with volunteers in the yard. Today he was adopted. Can’t ask for better than that.
