Perfect Pooches Adoption Agency: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant was used for Bubba's adoption donation and a one-year supply of prescription dog food, medications, nail trims and any other vet expenses related to his IBS and pancreatitis. An account with $850 credit was set up at the vet for the use of the adopters. His adoption donation was $150.

The grant helped Bubba get the home he deserved while giving the adopters some peace of mind that they would have some assistance with his medical costs. This allowed us to free up the space Bubba was taking for the last year and be able to save another dog.

How many pets did this grant help?

One directly, but indirectly many, as we were able to save others in his place

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Bubba originally joined the rescue in 2013 and was with us for over a year before getting adopted in 2014. Fast-forward to 2019 when he was returned after his owner could no longer care for him. And so he waited another year.

Not only was Buddy a senior, but he has a chronic issue with pancreatitis and irritable-bowel syndrome and needed to be maintained on a prescription diet for life. He also needs steroids, and will need to be monitored for any changes in his organ function or flare-ups of pancreatits.

The grant covered Bubba’s adoption donation and a year’s worth of prescription food, medications and nail trims (he is a bit of a landshark for nail trims so it’s best to have the professionals do it).

Bubba’s new parents have this to say:
“We have been longtime pet parents and have always provided our pets with good health care. Our last three special-needs dogs had significant vet bills over many years, but we always provided them with whatever treatment was needed.

“We had been pet-free for about two years and decided we were ready to adopt a senior pet. We knew from past experience how expensive the vet bills could be, so the decision to adopt a senior dog with a known history of pancreatitis and IBS was one we didn’t take lightly.

“Receiving this grant from the Petfinder Foundation gave us peace of mind and solidified our decision to adopt Bubba and give him the home he deserves. He has made us very happy and has been an amazing addition to our family! Thank you, Petfinder Foundation!”

Bubba is now happy and comfy in his new home! Thank you, Petfinder Foundation and Christie and Debi!
