Raven's Husky Haven and Rescue: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant was entirely used for the veterinary support and treatment of the dogs in our care, specifically Fizzy, Smokey, and Lexa!

The money was used to assist with the care and rehabilitation of three of our huskies: Fizzy, Smokey, and Lexa. Smokey is a senior male who needed large amounts of dental care that we were hoping to raise money for in order improve his quality of life and offer his adopters a more sustainable start to his care. Since we received the grant, Smokey was able to have his dental day, and he is ready to find his perfect home now!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Smokey (first photo) is a 7-year-old male husky who is still seeking his perfect furever home. Smokey was made to live outside his whole life until coming to us. He has come a long way: learning to live indoors and how to leash-walk, getting obedience lessons, and more. Recently, we became aware that Smokey needed some serious dental work, and our organization was getting ready to fundraise for him when the Petfinder Foundation Orvis Grant arrived. We immediately scheduled Smokey for his procedure! Not only has the procedure improved Smokey’s health, but it has enabled us to educate our volunteers and supporters about the importance of dental health.

Smokey has a new, bright smile that goes with his bright white coat, and he’s ready to find his perfect home! Meet Smokey: https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/30680969

We pulled Lexa (second photo) shortly after receiving the grant and discovered that she was heartworm-positive. The remainder of the grant has allowed us to begin her heartworm treatments. This part of the grant was so crucial, and so needed. Lexa has a long road ahead of her, but is off to a strong start thanks to your support.

Fizzy (third photo) was diagnosed with mycoplasmosis and canine herpesvirus after we pulled him and he needed intensive therapy and treatment in order to overcome the mycoplasmosis. The grant enabled us to purchase the right medications to minimize his herpesvirus and beat the mycoplasmosis, and Fizzy was adopted shortly thereafter — in good health, thanks to your support!
