PAWS Chicago: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The KONG toys were used to provide enrichment for dogs at our Lincoln Park Adoption Center and Medical Center.

The large durable KONG toys are especially helpful in providing enrichment for sick or injured dogs who may need to spend time in isolation, recovering. The KONG Flyer Dog Toy is perfect for playing fetch with our high-energy dogs on the rooftop deck at our Adoption Center. Attached is a photo of Nathaniel enjoying the KONG Flyer on our roof the day we received the grant (third photo)! We are happy to report Nathaniel has since been adopted!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Even though he is quite little, Salsa (first and second photos) enjoys the big-dog KONG toys! He was thrilled when he got his new toy — as you can see in the second photo, it is almost as big as he is! Salsa was adopted the day after this photo was taken! Carlyle (fourth photo) has enjoyed playing with the KONG toys as well, especially when they are stuffed with treats and peanut butter. Carlyle is a 9-month-old American Stafford terrier whom we rescued from Chicago Animal Care and Control. Carlyle is currently being treated for the highly contagious canine influenza virus and is in isolation for treatment.
