Save-A-Pet: Cat Castles Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were granted the Cat Castle carrier boxes. Since our cats our free-roaming, the boxes we use as a carrier for their new family and also something they can feel secure in until they get comfortable in their new home.

This grant helped our cats during the transition of their new home. In the shelter they are free-roaming, and we thought it would be beneficial for the new family to have a place for their new member to feel secure and have a familiar scent while adjusting. In our cat room, we wanted to be safe that our cat castle boxes weren't "marked" before the lucky resident went home. So we use them specifically for homeward-bound cats.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Some of our residents are very shy in our free-roaming cat room, so our beautiful Roma (bottom photo) had a special place in our “sun room” for the special-needs cats. She was brought in from the streets and was scared if anyone approached her. But she found comfort in a box with plenty of blankets to snuggle in. We have volunteers that just work with the special-needs and cats that need rehabilitation. That box gave Roma the several weeks she needed to feel more comfortable and come out and say hi, and maybe even let you pet her. She is still waiting for her new home, but until then she will always find comfort in her castle until her new family takes her home. Some of our lucky cats that found their new home are in the attached photos.
