Humane Society of Northwest Iowa: Dogs Playing for Life Mentorship Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

To have the opportunity to attend a Dogs Playing for Life mentorship.

In the short three months since the mentorship, three long-term, hard-to-adopt dogs have been able to go to their forever homes.

How many pets did this grant help?

Including the three above, we have also helped an additional four.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Clyde was a hard-to-adopt dog. He was extremely barrier-reactive and, due to that, didn’t have much interest. Thanks to my training, I was able to get him into a playgroup with another dog, which hadn’t been possible prior to my training.

Due to our ability to get him in a playgroup, we were able to conclude that he was only barrier-reactive and got along great in a push-and-pull type of playgroup. He had just needed staff with confidence. He has been adopted.
