Dogs Forever: Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

At this point in time, Scarlett has unfortunately not yet been adopted. However, when she does get adopted, the funds generously provided by the Petfinder Foundation will be used to pay for her food and nutritional supplements.

The funding will not be given directly to Scarlett’s future adopter but will instead be used by DOGS FOREVER to purchase the needed staples. In this way, the lion’s share of the financial burden of owning a senior dog will be eliminated.

While the grant funds will certainly help Scarlett directly, it also indirectly will help our organization as we strive to save as many dogs as we can. Money that we now spend on Scarlett while she is still at our shelter will then become available to offset expenses associated with other dogs currently (or soon to be) in our care.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Scarlett is an 8-years-young American bulldog mix who has been with us for a total of about four years. She was originally surrendered to us because her family no longer wanted her.

We adopted her to what we thought was her forever home, but the couple got divorced and the housing situation was no longer a good fit for Scarlett, so she was returned to us. She has been with us ever since, waiting for the right person or family to come along.

We got an application in on her just the other day that looks like it fits all her needs. The lady just needs to meet Scarlett. We are all hopeful that this will be the one. In the meantime, she is still posted on Petfinder as available since the applicant hasn’t met her yet.

You can meet Scarlett here.
