Rural Iowa Animal Rescue: Sponsor a Pet Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We are so grateful for the money donated! It was used to purchase feed for the blind mare who has been with us for almost seven years!

Any donations towards Tala the blind mare's care are greatly appreciated. She has been with us for almost seven years and has incurred many vet-bill costs, feed costs, training costs, and costs for general supplies. We are more than happy to cover these things for her, but any donation, no matter how big or small, for her care allows us to use more of the rescue's funds to help additional animals as well.

How many pets did this grant help?

This particular grant was requested to be for Tala, the blind mare.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Tala is a sweet and gentle mare who lived with her owner until she was 4. She is a well-bred show horse that is normally worth a large amount of money in the show world, but because she developed moon-blindness, her owner could no longer use her for this purpose and gave her up to be adopted. Tala is very loving and kids love to pet her and feed her. She has been through many training sessions, but each trainer has said she is too fearful of things she cannot see sometimes that she cannot be trained well enough to be adopted out safely as a trail horse. She is looking for a great companion home, however, until that point, we will keep her with the rescue and give her the best care possible. She loves to hang out with her pasture buddies and when she hears the barn door open, she comes trotting up to the barn and waits for her daily lovings and grain. We are awaiting someone who can see past the blindness and see her for who she is on the inside: a loving and kind-hearted mare. Meet Tala:
