Animal Rescue League of Iowa: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The ARL hosted a HOT FUR SUMMER adoption event so adopters and pets could start the summer out right and live their best lives by adopting a pet at all ARL adoption locations June 6-12 and Name Your Price when adopting dogs and cats 6 months and older.

During the HOT FUR SUMMER adoption event, 208 pets were adopted and are now living their best lives in homes where they belong!

This adoption event allowed us to market and promote adoption in a fun, inviting way that helped many pets get adopted. The timing of this event was good as it is summer time and our shelter is full with many deserving pets waiting for homes.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

So many great stories of pets being adopted during the HOT FUR SUMMER adoption event.

One of the sweetest was the adoption of Jonesy (first photo). Jonesy arrived at the ARL in extremely critical condition: drooling, panting and in obvious distress (second photo).

We were told that a company had laid poison in the apartment building he was living in and that Jonesy had been eating mice in his home that had likely been poisoned. After weeks of medical care, he was finally ready for adoption. Here is an update that was shared on Facebook:

JONESY UPDATE! After many weeks of recovery in our care, we’re happy to share that Jonesy has been ADOPTED (third photo)! Shylah and her boyfriend came to look at cats, and Jonesy talked to them the entire time they were here! He is quite the chatterbox, and they got the full Jonesy effect! Needless to say, they fell in love … and the feeling was mutual. You can read his original story here.
