The money is being used to cover medication costs for the adopter of senior dog Baby.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Sweet senior Chihuahua mix Baby came to the Kauai SPCA on Christmas Eve 2020. She was a transfer from our island’s only animal shelter.

At 16 years of age, Baby had health issues that needed extra attention. She went into foster care with us, where her foster mom fell in love with her and helped provide her with amazing care.

Finding a home for a senior dog in general is difficult, but doing so on Kauai is exceptionally challenging. We have a small island population, which limits our potential adoption opportunities on-island. Additionally, veterinary care is not cheap on Kauai. These factors make it difficult to find homes for senior animals.

Thanks to the Petfinder Foundation’s Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant, we were able to make adopting Baby more financially accessible by covering the medication costs for Baby. This played a huge factor in Baby finding her permanent home.

Baby was officially adopted on June 11 by her foster mom, who decided she had to make Baby a permanent member of her family. Baby is so loved! We couldn’t be more thrilled for Baby and are grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for helping to make Baby’s adoption possible. Mahalo, Petfinder Foundation!
